David is a solicitor and Partner of the Firm and manages the Firm’s litigation and family law department. David joined the Firm in March 2008 with almost 20 year’s experience in law, including the last 10 years in Hervey Bay.
Areas of Practice
- Personal Injuries Law – all types of claims including work accidents, motor vehicle accidents, accidents in public place or on private property, medical negligence, product liability and criminal compensation. David acted for many years for insurers including WorkCover Queensland, Suncorp CTP and Queensland Health and is now able to apply his knowledge and expertise to assist injured clients.
- Civil Litigation – David has experience in all types of civil litigation matters from motor vehicle property damage claims to debt recovery and personal disputes. David has acted in matters in all courts from the Magistrates Court to the Court of Appeal and Federal Court.
- Commercial Litigation – David has experience in commercial litigation including contract disputes, claims under the Trade Practices Act and construction disputes. David has a particular interest in claims under the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004.
- Criminal Law – David has experience acting in all types of criminal law matters from basic drink driving and traffic offences to serious crimes, including all aspects from a guilty plea in the Magistrates Court to trials in the District and Supreme Courts.
- Family Law – David has experience in all aspects of family law, but currently only accepts instructions in property matters for both married parties and de facto partners.
Professional History
David was born and raised in Brisbane and commenced his legal career in 1989 on the Gold Coast where he was an articled clerk to (now) Federal Magistrate Michael Baumann. David has worked for a mid tier Brisbane CBD firm and also leading regional firms in Mackay and Hervey Bay. David is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland (admitted 8 April 1991) and the High Court of Australia.
Outside the Law
Davis is married to Helen and has 2 children Jeremy and Piper. David is an avid sports fan and has an interest in most sports, with a particular passion for rugby league, Aussie rules and cricket. David has been previously the honorary solicitor for the Hervey Bay & District Tennis Association and the Hervey Bay Volunteer Marine Rescue.
David is also actively involved in the community and in particular Rotary International. David has been a member of the Hervey Bay Sunrise Rotary Club since 2000 and was the President of the club in 2007/08. David is also involved in the Hervey Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.
